COLUMBIA, TN (May 7, 2024) – The Bucks beat No. 5 seed Southwest TN to advance to the semifinal of the TCCAA Region 7 Baseball Tournament.
Neither team scored until the top of the 3rd inning, where Tanner Jones scored off a John Hale single to center field. CJ Robertson hit a single to left field to bring Hale home, leaving the score 2-0 by the 4th inning.
The scoring continued for the Bucks in the top of the 4th as Tucker Allen scores off a single from Jones, and Jones and Hale scoring off a homerun from Luke Johnson. In the bottom of the 4th, Southwest was able to hit a home run, but that was all that the Bucks allowed as the inning ended 6-1.
While the 6th inning was scoreless, the Bucks were able to extend the lead even more by Jones scoring after Johnson outing at first. In the bottom of the 6th, Southwest added one more run.
The top of the 7th inning was where the Bucks managed to extend their lead even more and secure the victory. Kaleb Gupton scored off a single to center field hit by Allen. Baron Cribbs hit a single, allowing Grant Godwin to score. Cribbs and Allen were able to score by a double hit by Irvin Hernandez. Hernandez also was able to hit home plate off a wild pitch.
With Southwest unable to score in the bottom of the 7th, the Bucks win the game 12-2.
Jones scored three runs and ran one batter in. Allen and Hale each scored two runs and had 1 RBI. Hernandez scored two runs and had two RBIS, and Luke Johnson scored one run and had four RBIs. Gupton and Godwin each scored one run, and Cribbs scored one run and ran one batter in.
Pitcher Ryder Morey struck out nine batters over seven innings.
The Bucks play No. 6 seed Dyersburg State on Wednesday, May 8th at 11:00 a.m. If they win, Motlow will be in the championship game on Thursday, May 9th at 12:00 p.m.
