Motlow Baseball Defeats No. 1 Seed in TCCAA Region VII Tourney

COLUMBIA, TN (May 5, 2024) – The Bucks defeat the No. 1 seed Walters State Sunday evening to advance to Game 7 against winner of Cleveland State and Southwest TN on Monday, May 6 at 4:30 p.m. 

The scoring started early for the Bucks as Hale hit a couple, bring Irvin Hernandez in for the first run of the game. Walters State quickly responded as they scored one run in the bottom of the first. The Bucks quickly responded by Hernandez earning a walk, but because bases were loaded, Grant Godwin advanced to home plate, giving Motlow the lead 2-1 by the bottom of the 2nd

In the 3rd inning, Motlow State was unable to score, but Walters State’s Sutton batting in Taylor to tie the game up. Walters State took the lead in the bottom of the 6th with Taylor and Martin scoring making the score 2-4. 

Motlow State responded quickly in the top of the 7th as Tucker Allen hit a single, and CJ Robertson taking advantage and scoring. Grant Goodwin scored on a balk, and Hernandez and Tanner Jones scoring runs by a single by Luke Johnson. In the bottom of the 7th, Ortiz scored off a Sutton homerun and Taylor scored by Martin hitting a double. By the 8th inning, the score was tied 8-8.

Both teams were scoreless in the 8th inning, but Motlow State took the lead in the top of the 9th. The scoring started with Hale hitting a single, allowing Hernandez to score to advance to second and Jones to score. Hernandez scored an unearned run

With Walters State unable to score in the bottom of the 9th, Motlow State defeats the No. 1 seed in the conference. 

Hernandez scored three runs and had 1 RBI, and Godwin scored two runs. Jones scored two runs and 1 RBI, while Robertson scored 1 run and ran one batter in. Tucker Allen scored a run and had 1 RBI. Hale and Johnson each ran two batters in. 

The Bucks will pay the winner of Cleveland State and Southwest TN on Monday, May 6 at 4:30 p.m.
