No. 9 Bucks ambush Pioneers, prepare for challenging road trip

Jan. 29, 2018

The Motlow Bucks spotted visiting Volunteer State an early 9-2 lead, then went on a 26-8 run over the next eight minutes on their way to a 106-77 win over their closest TCCAA rival Saturday afternoon in front of the season's largest crowd at Copperweld Arena.

The Bucks (14-2, 8-0) strengthened their hold on the top spot in the TCCAA standings with the victory. Motlow will travel this coming weekend, facing two teams that are in the top half of the conference standings. The Bucks face Cleveland State (10-8, 6-5) Friday and Chattanooga State (11-7, 7-3) on Saturday.

Sophomore Rashawn Fredericks continued his push for conference player of the year consideration with a double-double, scoring 20 points and pulling down 23 rebounds along with four blocked shots. His rebound total is tied for the fifth most in a single game in school history. Fredericks, who was the TCCAA Freshman of the Year last season, leads the league in rebounding with an 11.7 per-game average and is fourth in scoring at 17.1 points per game.

The Bucks shot the ball well from all areas of the court Saturday, hitting 53 percent of their field goals and 37.5 percent of their three-point shots. Free throw shooting was splendid as well, as Motlow made 22-26 from the charity stripe. The Bucks pulled down 51 rebounds and only turned the ball over six times.

Hayden Edmondson continued to provide Motlow a scoring spark off the bench, connecting on 9-11 field goals, including 4-5 three pointers, and leading the team with 22 points. He is second in the TCCAA in shooting percentage at 51.5 percent. Leo Castillo scored 18 and pulled down four rebounds, Isaiah Hart had a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists, and Dillon Smith scored 12 with three steals.

Justin Hill added six points and three rebounds, Anthony Yarbrough scored five with seven rebounds, Chad Emmons had five points and five rebounds, Zaire Swaby scored four with seven rebounds and Derrick Rayford added two points.
