The Motlow State Bucks connected on 15-22 shots from behind the three-point line and scored a season high in points as they beat TNG Prep Academy 118-97 Wednesday night at Lawrence County High School in Lawrenceburg, Tenn.
The Bucks (6-2, 2-1) will remain outside the TCCAA conference Tuesday night when they host Gadsden State (Ala.) at 5:30 p.m. at Copperweld Arena. Motlow returns to conference play this weekend with trips to Chattanooga State on Friday and Cleveland State on Saturday.
In front of a rowdy crowd in Lawrenceburg the Bucks struggled a bit to get untracked in the early going and only led 51-44 heading into the halftime intermission. However, Motlow connected on shots at a blistering pace in the second half and pulled away, shooting 67.2 percent from the field for the game.
Freshman Rashawn Fredericks continued his emergence with 30 points and 17 rebounds, his fourth double-double of the season. Fredericks hit 10-11 shots from the field, including 5-5 three-pointers, and added four steals and two blocked shots.
Javion Hamlet also added a double-double for the Bucks with 14 points and 11 assists. Kirk Kemp scored 12 points with six assists, Kevonte Corley had 11 points and eight rebounds, Aleks Zecevic scored 10 with four rebounds and Javel Gillespie added 10 points.
The 118 points was the highest scoring total for the Bucks this season and the most Motlow men's basketball has scored since Jan. 19, 2016, when they put 119 points on the scoreboard in a 119-50 win over Bryan College.
